Rummy Nose Tetra fish are small, colorful freshwater tropical fish characterized by a small adipose fin behind the dorsal fin, an omnivorous diet, and a peaceful schooling nature.
Physical and Biological Specifications
- Size: Range from 0.75 inches (Ember Tetra) up to 2–3 inches for standard types, and up to 5 inches for larger species like the Congo Tetra
- Lifespan: 2 to 10 years depending on the species and quality of care
- Anatomy: Streamlined bodies, homocercal caudal fins, and a distinct small adipose fin.
- Common Species: Neon Tetra, Cardinal Tetra, Black Skirt Tetra, Glowlight Tetra, and Ember Tetra.
Habitat and Water Requirements
- Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons for small groups of tiny/medium species; 20 gallons or larger for active or bigger species.
- Water Temperature: 72°F to 82°F (22°C to 28°C).
- Water pH: 6.0 to 7.5 (slightly acidic to neutral).
- Behavior: Highly active, mid-to-lower level swimmers that must be kept in schools of 6 to 10+ of the same species to reduce stress.
